Garden Trends: Create a Moroccan Style Garden Patio

Posted on: 22/02/2017

Increasingly, we find our customers are taking their garden inspiration from further afield. Inspired in part by exotic holidays and part by browsing Pinterest, people are coming up with garden and patio designs that pay homage to experiences far beyond the cottage garden. One example of this is the trend towards the Moroccan style garden patio. Here’s how to create that look.

Geometric Paving

Moroccan style paving often uses tessellation to create geometric patterns. Elongated hexagonal slabs can be combined with squares and rectangles to give a Moorish pattern to your patio.

Wire Furniture

Patio furniture made of wrought iron and cushioned in bohemian reds and oranges or the dark blue of the North African sky really sets off the theme of your Moroccan patio garden. You could be in Casablanca (except for the fact that you have to put your shawl on after sunset).

Raised Beds

Surround your patio with raised flower beds. In keeping with the Moroccan tradition. Plants should be useful as well as decorative. So plant herbs for the kitchen such as rosemary and basil alongside sweet-smelling jasmine and actual vegetables from the allium family.
