Celebrate National Gardening Week 2015
Posted on: 16/04/2015If you've got green fingers and love getting out in the garden no matter what time of the year, then you may have already heard of the National Gardening Week (13th April-19th April). This is the country's biggest celebration of gardening, with thousands of people, charities, retailers, gardens, culture and heritage organisations coming together to commemorate this fantastic week.
National Gardening Week was launched by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), the world's leading gardening charity. The week is designed for people to get involved in activities and spread the word about the great things you can do in your garden. There are many events being run up and down the country from beginner's workshops to guided walks and garden parties. If you don't have time to venture out to your nearest event there are things you can do with your family at home, such as:
- Build a compost café
- Plant a tree
- Put in a pond
- Build a bee hotel
- Build nesting boxes for birds
- Grow some vegetables
For those of you who like hosting parties, you can organise a garden party or perhaps organise an event in your local park, no matter how big or small your idea may be, getting involved in National Gardening Week is a rewarding experience.
Due to the team at National Gardening Week having such a passion for gardens, on the 17th April the first ever National Gardens Day will be launched, celebrating the wide range of beautiful, historical and educational gardens we have in the UK. They have asked the gardens that usually charge an entry fee to open their doors for free on 17th April, giving people the opportunity to visit them and discover what makes a garden so brilliant.
The RHS is starting this campaign by opening four wonderful gardens:
- Wisley, Surrey
- Hyde Hall, Essex
- Rosemoor, North Devon
- Harlow Carr, North Yorkshire
Many of the RHS Partner Gardens, National Gardens Scheme gardens and lots more have joined the campaign and will be also opening their doors for free as well.
This is a fantastic week to get involved with gardening whether it's doing something at home or visiting a heritage garden. If you're a beginner or an expert gardener, it's never too early to get out in your garden and create something beautiful.
