Garden landscaping: A Worthwhile investment
Posted on: 27/02/2014Now some might say that as a landscaping company we are slightly biased, but if you are trying to decide if it is worth having a landscape gardener come into your home and restructure your garden is worth the investment the answer is absolutely yes! Whether you are looking to improve the look of your property with the intention of selling it, or plan to live there for many years to come, there is a lot that can be gained from a professional designed garden.
Landscaping your garden should always be viewed as an investment. A well landscaped garden can add considerable value to your property when you come to sell it, up to 20% in some cases. Whilst you may not be looking to sell anytime soon, in the mean time you can get many years of enjoyment from your newly landscaped garden.
“The pretty house with a decent south-facing garden is always in great demand. Whether it’s a cottage or a country house, buyers will always ask about the garden. It’s always near the top of their list.” – Damian Gray, Knight Frank Estate Agents
2013 figures from the DIY chain Homebase found that homeowners invested more then £80bn into their gardens, with the average garden worth £1928 according to a survey from Lloyds TSB Insurance. With two fifths of Britons saying they wouldn’t even consider purchasing a home that did not have a big enough garden and one in seven saying a garden added value to a property, you can quickly see how a professionally landscaped garden can be worth the investment.
It is important however to balance luxury with practicality when considering how you want your garden to be landscaped. Around 10% of Britons now have a hot tub in their garden, 22% a trampoline and 8% have a summer house. But while extravagances such as swimming pools are a wonderful luxury to have, the cost of their upkeep and the potential hazard to small children can be off-putting to potential buyers.
A more cost effective way of instantly making your garden more appealing is to invest in the creation of enjoyable outdoor spaces, both in the form of paved patios and beautiful lawns that can be used for both relaxation and socialising. At Knights we put a great deal of time into fully understanding what the garden means to our customers and what they hope to get out of it, allowing us to work with them to create an outdoor area that really makes the most of the space they have available.
