Keep Your Concrete Patio Looking New And Clean

Posted on: 14/08/2014

Once you have had a patio installed in your home you it can really enhance your home and garden - you have a lovely place from which you can enjoy your garden and the sun and you couldn't be happier. However, patios, like anything else can get covered in marks, scuffs and stains from all sorts of places, even just the elements themselves. Therefore it is important that you remember to look after your patio to stop problems before they arise and ensure it continues to look as good as new for as long as possible.

There are plenty of cleaning companies out there who can do the job for you, and we recommend that you use them for any heavy duty cleaning work, but there are still plenty of ways you can clean and maintain your patio yourself to save on costs.

  • Washing up liquid: It may just seem like another everyday household item, but a bowl of water with washing up liquid in can be ideal for cleaning your patio. Just use a cloth soaked in the water and scrub away at the bad areas to get them clean. Obviously, this is only suitable for smaller, concentrated areas where you may have a spillage or stain, not cleaning the whole patio.
  • Saw dust: Saw dust is a necessity for cleaning up greasy spills which can easily happen if you use your patio for a barbequing space. Simply sprinkle sawdust on the greasy spill and then wash it away after a day - the saw dust will have soaked up all the grease leaving your patio clean again.
  • Garden hose: A garden hose is great for washing away general spills or muck. There isn't much pressure behind the water that comes through a hose so some scrubbing will be required to get rid of the worst of the mess, but for a general clean then you can't go wrong.
  • Pressure washer: The best way to clean your whole patio is a pressure washer. A pressure washer will do the same job as a hose but with more force behind it so that you don't have to worry about scrubbing the patio after. Just be careful not to use one that is too powerful (1900 psi should be suitable) so that you don't risk damaging the concrete.
