Landscaping Tips for a Perfect Outdoor Space
Posted on: 11/03/2015Landscaping is an art of changing visible features of your outdoor space and making it look appealing and inviting. It can help solve aesthetic problems and even privacy issues for some home owners. As well as creating a beautiful outdoor living space, landscaping is also very helpful; it can help lessen noise and heat. Everyone wants to come home to a tranquil garden which they can enjoy after a hard day's work, so with this in mind, we have come up with some inspirational tips to help you plan your new outdoor living space.
- Make a plan: It is important to make a plan of what you would like your outdoor space to look like. There is no point rushing to buy materials and decorations if you can't use them, instead, sketch out the fixed features that are already in and around your garden. You can also include trees and other plants that are existing in your space and which you plan to keep.
- Consider some important factors: Before landscaping begins, you need to consider a few things such as the impact of the plants to gutters, water pipes and roofing materials. You should also think about the kind of maintenance certain plants need and if your plan could allow these plants to live.
- Use available spaces: You need to know how you want to use the available spaces, for instance, if you are bothered by noise from passing vehicles, you can make use of hedges to reduce the sound of traffic. If you have children you could even include a play area in the landscaping or allocate a space for outdoor get-togethers where you can entertain visitors and get the BBQ out.
- Evaluate the amount of sunlight: Try to determine how much sunlight your property gets as it can affect the kind of plants that you will use. Take note of shaded and partially shaded areas as you wouldn't want to see your favourite plants wither just because they couldn't tolerate the amount of sunlight they were receiving or lack of exposure to it.
- Use different decorations and accessories: Aside from plants, you could add decorative features such as urns, stones and lighting, creating an attractive landscape. You could also place different decorations such as bird baths and some water features too, just make sure you choose the right ones which won't make your space overcrowded.
- Colourful flowering trees and shrubs: To add some extra beauty to your landscape, make the most of flowering trees and shrubs. These can be used as border or you may want to place them in different parts of the garden and surround them with flowering shrubs. Choose trees that have beautiful and colourful flowers, not all shrubs are merely green, others have flowers too.
- Unique patios and walkways: You can make your walkways look stunning by using decorative pavers by choosing a colour and texture that suits your taste. Along these paths, you can place some plants too; using your creativity to design it.
