Clearing Snow and Ice from Your Driveway
Posted on: 11/12/2015The Meteorological Office has warned that we could be in for a severe winter. We’re overdue one here in the East where the last two winters have been exceptionally mild. If the snow does start to fall, it may settle on your driveway, posing a hazard for when you go leave your house. We’d like you to take extra care out there when clearing the snow and ice, so here’s our guide to doing it safely.
Get To It Early
Freshly fallen snow is a lot easier to shovel than trampled snow. Try and shift the snow each morning before it has been walked on, driven on, played in, rolled into snowmen or thrown at passing strangers.
Think Before You Shovel
Where are you going to put all that extra snow? Make sure you aren’t blocking someone else’s driveway by freeing up access to your own. You don’t want to put in all that hard work shovelling only to discover that you have to do it all over again!
A Sprinkle of Salt and Sand
Grit any high traffic areas with salt to melt the snow and sand to provide some traction underfoot. Water also melts snow, but don’t be tempted to turn on the hosepipe – unless you want to create an ice rink!
Think of Your Neighbours
Is there anyone living nearby who may have difficulty getting out and about in freezing conditions? An older neighbour may be worried about a fall on the ice. Be neighbourly and offer to sweep their pathway or pop to the shops for them.
Keep a lookout for any cracked tiles or loose brickwork this winter. Freezing weather and improperly wielded spades can be bad news for old driveways. If you are in any doubts, we offer a full restoration service or, once the snow has cleared, why not treat yourself to a new driveway? All of our driveways come with a 12 year guarantee. That’s the longest guarantee of any pavers in Norwich! Call us on 01603 360548 for a quote.
