Create an Outdoor Living Space in Time for Summer
Posted on: 28/02/2017With the last vestiges of Storm Doris fading away over the weekend, perhaps we can look forward to springtime. Spring and summer are the time of year that you will really get the most out of your garden. The garden and especially your patio can become like an extra room of your house. By creating an outdoor living space, you will find the kids playing outside, the adults relaxing outside and activities such as dining can also be moved outside.
The Patio
The patio is the centre of your outdoor living space. An evenly laid patio is the best place to lay your table for any al fresco meals that you have planned.Â
The Furniture
A solid set of wooden, plastic or cast iron patio furniture means that people always have somewhere to sit comfortably. If you have more guests than you have garden furniture? Dining chairs can be brought out to your patio, but don’t put them on the lawn: they tend to sink in creating unwanted holes.Â
The Barbecue
There are three ways that you can proceed when it comes to cooking outside on a barbecue. The authentic way is to light a small fire in a prepared pit and then add your charcoal. When the coals turn white your barbecue is ready. The lazy way is to buy one of those calor gas powered things on wheels that are essentially just a gas grill that can be used outside. The third way is to buy a couple of those  “disposable†barbecues and pray that at least one of them will get hot enough to cook a chicken thigh sufficiently to avoid giving anyone food poisoning.
The Fridge
The main problem with hot sunny days and outdoor living is the eternal problem of how to keep your drinks cool. A big tub full of water and ice kept in the shade should keep your cans of beer and pop cold all day and will save you all those suntan denying trips to the kitchen fridge.
That’s all there is to it! Once you can sit outside, eat outside, cook outside and keep your drinks cool outside, then you'll have created an outdoor living space that is ready for summer. It all starts with a decent patio. If you haven’t got a patio or if yours has seen better days, we can help you out.
