Pavestone Paving: The Natural Stone Revival
Posted on: 31/03/2016Concrete was very popular in the twentieth century. Functionalist architects loved the stuff and built hulking grey buildings out of it that have divided critics ever since. It also found a place in landscape gardening, where the cheap and colourful concrete slab became the leading choice in patio construction. In this century, there has been a natural stone revival and the revolution has been led by Pavestone Paving.
Brick weave isn’t just for smart driveways; it can add rustic charm, too.The History of Pavestone Paving
Pavestone Paving founder Kevin Fowler had been in the concrete slab production business for twenty years when he noticed interest in natural products start to increase. Spotting a potential gap in the market, he began to source stone slabs from quarries around the world and supplied them to builders’ merchants around the country. Thirteen years later, Pavestone Paving is one of the country’s leading suppliers of natural patio paving and driveway block paving to the industry. On top of this, they still manufacture concrete slabs at their plant in Gloucestershire.

Conditions for workers in stone quarries in developing nations are sometimes very poor and Pavestone Paving recognise their responsibility to their supply chain. As a founder member of the Ethical Trading Initiative, they work with partner companies, trades unions and charities to ensure fair pay and good conditions and benefits for the workers in India who supply most of the stone. Their manufacturing plant in Gloucestershire is powered by renewable energy.
